I feel like I owe it to you to give you the latest chicken news.
It's a bit disturbing on one hand, but on the other hand it's good.
So with the disturbing news first (with an explanation to follow)....
Blue, Yellow, and Chicken Little will soon be.....not sure how to put this nicely?
FRYERS!
We learned over the weekend that they truly aren't very good "layers" and that their real purpose in life is to grow fast, and then to appear on the family table for dinner. Now, don't tell me I didn't warn you about the disturbing news. It's a bit sad, I know.
But, to follow the sad news, we have good news.
The 2 April Fool's day chickens, Red and Stripe are doing GREAT. Their purpose in life is to lay eggs. So that means they won't become dinner at the Wood family home (OH, that's terrible of me).
So.
Since we were going to be down to only 2 chickens in a few short weeks, we went shopping.
And welcomed, 2 more chickens to our flock.
Both of them are good laying chickens; a Buff Orpington and a Plymouth Rock.
Which have been named, Buff and Rock (real exciting).
And lastly without further a do, I'd like to show you a picture of the "all most" completed Chicken Coop.
Blue, Yellow, and Chicken Little will be moving in (for a short time) this weekend.
Once they move on with their real purpose in life the other 4 will be big enough to take up residencey.
Don't fret chicken farmers, we will have a top on it soon!
It will be hinged so we can pick it up and gather the eggs with ease.
My advice: Don't tell the kids about the chicken leg they will be munching on!!!
ReplyDeleteFresh eggs are the best.

The chicken coop looks great! I assume you can move this coop around and keep them somewhat shaded during the summer - keep us posted. Love Aunt Sue
